Momma and her girls_Minneapolis Family Photography

This gorgeous momma and her two girls came to the studio for updated photos since, as often happens with 2nd and 3rd children, mom just didn’t have the same amount of photos with her second little one as she did with the first. Adding that second or third (or fourth!) bundle of joy expands your heart but makes having family photos taken even trickier.

Has your family grown since the last time you had photos taken? Contact me today to inquire about openings in my Minneapolis photography studio! They are only little once, be sure to capture their curls and smiles before they are grown up.

As many of you know, I am a member of the most amazing women’s photography forum, called ClickinMoms, and every year – in cities across the world – forum members get together to photograph their cities. It’s a time to network and meet new friends and, of course, take photos!

This year the Minneapolis ClickinWalk was held at the Minneapolis Sculpture Gardens at the Walker Art Center. The weather was gorgeous and aside from a ton of prom kids who were there at the same time as us (to take photos before their dance) it was a wonderful evening.

I cannot believe this little doll is already a year old! I swear just yesterday we had her newborn session and now she’s a walking, giggling toddler. It was so nice to see her and her mom & dad again at their home in Rogers and with this nice weather we’re having in Minnesota, we had to get outside for some sunshine. And, of course, no lifestyle family session is complete without some bedtime stories in your jammies.

Contact me to inquire about a session for your own toddler!

It was gorgeous outside yesterday – and we’ve had chalk sitting lonely and unused all winter – so we finally got to break it out. Warmer weather is almost here in Minnesota and I can’t wait for late sunsets and sunshine.

This lovely 7 year old just so happens to be my own daughter. Every year I take her photos in the studio, because early April is so hit or miss for Minnesota weather, but this year we had a gorgeous warm snap a few weeks ago so I jumped on the chance! We went to one of my favorite locations to capture her in all of her 7 year old spunky goodness and I was not disappointed.

Have your own little one that you want to capture before they grow up too fast? Contact me today to book your own children’s photography session.

    Where We Live_Han’s Bakery Anoka

So, it probably comes as no surprise to anyone who follows my blog but, I sorta kinda fell off my “Where We Live” blog wagon. It wasn’t that I wasn’t shooting! I just… ran out of cool locations that I could think to use each month. But, I promise to get more creative and post from here on out.

First up for March is the iconic Han’s Bakery in Anoka, Minnestoa. They have thee most amazing baked goods and it’s always such an ecclectic group of patrons. Grandparents taking their grandkids out for a donut, hipsters stocking up on bread, and even the occasional almost-7-year-old girl in need of a chocolate cupcake. And their prices are super reasonable too. It really is everything a hometown bakery should be!

The blog circle isn’t very big this month- and by not very big I mean just *two* of us – but the other lady is so awesome. Head on over to see what’s happening in Austin, TX with Paige!

  • One Last Time_Minneapolis Family Photographer

I came across this poem and while I can’t seem to find the original author, it speaks to me as a mother and photographer so profoundly that I just had to share. In the grand scheme of a life, our child are little and only need us for such a brief period. Don’t let these precious days slip by without capturing them. Whether is it’s me, another photographer, or even your own camera- capture your little ones, print the images, and cherish them. Because before you know it, the last time will have passed you by.

From the moment you hold your baby in your arms,
you will never be the same.
You might long for the person you were before,
When you have freedom and time,
And nothing in particular to worry about.

You will know tiredness like you never knew it before,
And days will run into days that are exactly the same,
    Full of feedings and burping,
    Nappy changes and crying,
    Whining and fighting,
Naps or a lack of naps,
It might seem like a never-ending cycle.

    But don’t forget …
There is a last time for everything.
There will come a time when you will feed
your baby for the very last time.
They will fall asleep on you after a long day
And it will be the last time you ever hold your sleeping child.

One day you will carry them on your hip then set them down,
And never pick them up that way again.
You will scrub their hair in the bath one night
And from that day on they will want to bathe alone.
They will hold your hand to cross the road,
Then never reach for it again.
They will creep into your room at midnight for cuddles,
And it will be the last night you ever wake to this.

One afternoon you will sing “the wheels on the bus”
    and do all the actions,
Then never sing them that song again.
They will kiss you goodbye at the school gate,
The next day they will ask to walk to the gate alone.
You will read a final bedtime story and wipe your last dirty face.
They will run to you with arms raised for the very last time.

The thing is, you won’t even know it’s the last time
Until there are no more times.
And even then, it will take you a while to realize.

So while you are living in these times,
remember there are only so many of them
and when they are gone, you will yearn for just one more day of them.

    For one last time.

We haven’t had a lot of snow this winter here in Minnesota but we got some beautiful white stuff over night. On top of that, the weather warmed up to almost 28 degrees so you know what that meant? Outdoor time after school today!
